I dont know why im updating right now, maybe because i feel as if today is an important day in history. Ever since I was a child I remember learning about civi rights. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks were some of the few who I learned about. In English class, books such as The Color Purple were a standard part of my curriculum. Each story told this intresting and powerfull true tale of African Americans and their fight for equality. Although I always felt that in my generation the african american race had reached a great level of equality, today at 9AM pacific time, Barack Heisen Obama will become the first African-American president of the United States. I feel as if this is the ending of the story which began with characters such as Abraham Lincoln, in a time where are nation was divided, and as the pages went on they tell a long journey of the couragous people standing up for an idea. And today this story ends. Barack Obama stands for so much more than simply a man who offers hope for this country. He stands as the symbol to a successfull ending, and to the begining of something which can really be great. The man is charasmatic and i enjoy that he is black. Ive only seen two presidents in my life time, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush... I think Bill was the man, and Bush got old after he was re-elected. So to have a black, young, and sorta-hip president will be very interesting. I can't really predict what these next four years will be like, but if there were anyone in charge who could get things done, I really believe Barack is the one who will get it done. Plus its about time black people aren't considered to be 'different'. I never really thought of them different just because of there skin color, but im honestly over the whole rasist trend that used to be so common. I mean its 2009, we're all humans, who cares if you're black, white, asain, or whatever. Im curious to see when a female becomes the first lady... I think it may be a little while before we see a female holding office. Time will just have to tell.
